Elevate Your Handmade Store's Sales with Simple and Fun Product Bundles
If you're a handmade seller looking to boost your average order value (AOV) while giving your customers more reasons to love your products, bundling is the perfect solution! It's a fun and practical way to increase sales, especially if your current AOV is around $50-$60. With a little creativity, you can easily push that up to $80-$100!
Here’s a breakdown of how you can use bundles effectively in your handmade shop, along with some fun, real-world examples from my own store.
Types of Bundles to Consider:
1. Seasonal Bundle
Bundle up products that align with the current season, like candles or bath bombs in fall scents such as "Pumpkin Spice," "Cinnamon Apple," and "Vanilla Cream." This works beautifully for candles, soaps, and any other fragrance-based or seasonal design products.
Why It Works: Customers love the idea of having a seasonal collection in one go. This bundle appeals to their sense of tradition and celebration, and increases the likelihood they’ll purchase more than one product.
Tip: Keep an eye on inventory and don’t over-order. Seasonal products have a short window for demand.
2. Relaxation & Self-Care Set
Create a relaxing package of items like a calming lavender candle, bath salts, and essential oils. Tap into the wellness trend that’s popular with buyers looking to pamper themselves or gift others.
Why It Works: Self-care products are timeless and a perfect gift option. This bundle can also help you reach a new audience looking for pampering products.
Thing to Keep in Mind: Not all of your customers may be into self-care. Test it out with a smaller inventory first. I do know this idea works really well for gifting, so holidays, valentine's day and mother's day.
3. Build-Your-Own Bundle
Let your customers create their own personalized bundle by choosing from a selection of products. For example, let them choose any three candles for a set price, or allow them to mix and match bath products.
Why It Works: It gives the customer freedom, making them feel more connected to their purchase. Customization also encourages a sense of ownership and satisfaction.
Tip: Use an app like Bundle Builder to make the process easy for customers. Or if you're working with a web developer or freelancer, you can create a custom solution.
4. Complementary Products Bundle
Pair your primary product with accessories or complementary items. For example, if you sell candles, offer a bundle that includes a wick trimmer or snuffer.
Why It Works: Customers appreciate getting everything they need in one go, especially if it adds value or enhances the experience. Plus, it introduces them to products they didn’t know they needed.
Tip: Be mindful of the pricing so you don’t compete directly with large marketplaces like Amazon.
5. Similar Bundle
Create an immersive experience by bundling similar items. For instance, you can group by fragrance: candles, reed diffusers, and room sprays together of the same scent. Or maybe you sell coffee up, you could bundle 4-6 coffee cups with the same design. People will even buy multiple of the same item. We use this option as an upsell as checkout. This type of bundle appeals to customers who want their entire home to smell amazing.
Why It Works: Offering a variety of fragrance options makes the purchase feel more luxurious. It allows the customer to experiment with different products in your line.
Tip: Make sure your storage and logistics can handle new product categories if you're expanding into diffusers or sprays.
6. Monthly Subscription Box
The holy grail of bundles! A subscription box where customers receive a new product every month is a fantastic way to keep your loyal customers engaged.
Why It Works: Subscriptions generate consistent monthly recurring revenue and build strong customer loyalty. It’s a win-win for both you and your customers.
Real-World Example:
I offer a subscription box, the Scent Club where customers receive a new candle scent each month, sometimes with an exclusive bonus product. Our loyal subscribers rave about the little surprises, and their lifetime value is far higher than one-time buyers.
Tip: Use Shopify apps like Loop, Recharge or Seal, the one I use and recommend (excellent customer service) to manage your subscription services. Keep in mind, subscription boxes are a high-commitment sale, so this might not work for every customer. It’s best to have a solid email list before you launch one.

What To Keep in Mind When Bundling:
Test and Iterate: Don’t try to launch 10 different bundles at once. Test a few options, track how they perform, and adjust based on customer feedback.
Flexibility vs. Conversion: Pre-set bundles can simplify the shopping experience and reduce friction, while build-your-own options give customers flexibility. Don;t make your customers think. Offer a quick, one click, easy to purchase option. Test and figure out which works best for your audience.
Use Your Existing Products: Bundles don’t have to be complex. Sometimes, using what you already have in stock is the smartest move.
Conclusion: Bundling is a powerful way to boost sales and offer more value to your customers. Whether it’s a seasonal scent bundle, a personalized DIY set, or a monthly subscription box, there’s an option that fits every handmade business. Experiment with different bundle types and track what resonates with your audience.
