How to Get Google to Notice Your Website—Fast!

The Quick, Free Way to Get Your Handmade Store Indexed by Google

If you want your website to show up on Google, the first and most important step is to get it indexed. And the best part? It’s completely free. Let me walk you through the exact process to ensure Google starts recognizing your website—without spending a dime.

Here’s the step-by-step:

  1. Sign Up for Google Search Console: Head over to Google Search Console, click "Start now," and sign up for an account. Once you’re logged in, click “Add Property.”

  2. Add Your Domain: You’ll see two options to verify your website, but focus on the one where you paste your domain URL. After that, hit “Continue.”

  3. Verify Domain Ownership: Google will give you a verification code. Copy it, then log in to your domain registrar (where you bought your website domain). For example, if your site is registered with Matt's Cookies, go there, click "Manage," then "Advanced DNS." Add a new text record and paste the code from Google.

  4. Verify Your Site: Head back to Google Search Console, click "Verify," and voila! You’ve officially proven ownership.

  5. Submit Your Sitemap: Here’s where the magic happens. Under the "Sitemaps" section in Google Search Console, you’ll want to submit your sitemap. It’s usually found at yoursite.com/sitemap.xml. Once you have that URL, go back to Google Search Console and paste it in the "Add a new sitemap" field, then click "Submit."

By submitting your sitemap, you’re telling Google about all your web pages, so they can begin indexing them and making your site searchable.
