Pop Quiz! The 7 Ps to Create a More Profitable, Purposeful Business

Reflect, Realign, and Propel Your Handmade Business to New Heights

Cheri here, and I’ve got something fun for you today that’s not just a game—it’s a tool to help you move your business (and life) forward in the direction you truly want to go.

Grab a notebook, open your notes app, or simply take a few quiet moments to think about these 7 Ps below. Reflect, write out your answers, or even rate yourself on a scale of 1 to 10 for each. The goal? To see where you stand today and track your progress weekly or monthly. It’s all about growth and clarity.

The 7 Ps to Create a More Profitable, Purposeful Business

1. Purpose: Find Your North Star

What’s your purpose in business? This isn’t just a fluffy mission statement; it’s the core reason you’re doing what you do. What are the values and goals that matter most to you? Are you here to create beautiful, handmade items that bring joy, to build a sustainable and ethical business, or perhaps to connect with a community of like-minded creators?

Now, take it a step further: how are you incorporating those values into your daily business actions? Are there areas where you could align even more with your purpose?

2. Problem: What’s Your Unique Solution?

Every successful business solves a problem. What problem do you solve with your handmade business? Maybe you offer natural, skin-friendly soaps for people with allergies, or perhaps you create unique, personalized gifts that help people celebrate special moments. Define the problem clearly. How do you solve it (what’s your process)? Who are you solving it for? And what’s it worth to them? Understanding the value you bring to the table is key to pricing and positioning your products effectively.

3. Person: Who’s Your Dream Customer?

Think about your ideal client or customer. Who are they? What do they care about? What are the top 5 “green flags” or qualifiers that tell you someone is a great fit for your business and will love what you create? This is about knowing who gets the most value from what you offer and who will become a loyal, raving fan. Write it down and keep it handy—this is your target audience, the people who will connect with your story and your products.

4. Prospect: How Do You Attract Them?

Once you know who your ideal customer is, the next step is to figure out where to find them and how to attract them to your business. How do you generate qualified leads? Are you using social media effectively, tapping into local markets, or leveraging SEO on your website? Brainstorm where you can find more ideal prospects. What steps can you take to become more visible and help them find you? Maybe it’s time to spruce up your Instagram strategy or start a blog that answers the questions your ideal customer is asking.

5. Process: Streamline Your Workflow

A strong process can make or break your business. What processes do you have in place, and what processes do you want to have? Whether it's how you manage orders, interact with customers, or create your products, having a clear and efficient process helps create leverage. Not only does this save you time, but it also ensures consistency and quality, which builds trust with your customers. Think about where you can simplify, automate, or improve your current processes.

6. Pitch: Perfect Your Messaging

How do you move people from "just browsing" to becoming a customer? What does your current process and messaging look like? Is it working for you, and more importantly, does it feel good and effective? Your pitch isn’t just about selling—it’s about connecting. Make sure your messaging resonates with your ideal customer and clearly communicates the value you provide. Maybe it’s time to tweak that email sequence or refresh your sales page to reflect the real magic behind your brand.

7. Plan: Map Out Your Path Forward

You’ve got your purpose, you know your problem and your person, and you’re ready to pitch. But what’s the plan? What specific action steps and support do you need to get from where you are now to where you want to be? Think about both short-term and long-term goals. Break them down into manageable steps that align with your purpose and values. It might mean setting a goal to reach out to ten new potential retailers this month or finally launching that new product line that’s been on your mind.

Did this help bring up some ideas and action steps for you? I hope so! It always does for me.

I challenge you to revisit these 7 Ps regularly. You’ll be amazed at how much clarity, focus, and momentum you can gain by simply taking a few minutes to reflect.
